Mission
District Kishtwar has been curved out in the year 2007 and it started functioning as independent administrative unit on 01-04-2007. Kishtwar town is the HQ of District Kishtwar situated at a distance of 235 kms from the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir State. It is located between 35-55 and 45-97 degrees longitudinal; however the altitude of the District varies from 3000-15000 ft. above the sea level. Commonly known as the 'Land of Sapphire and Saffron' , it is also very rich in forest products. Kishtwar is surrounded by the District Anantnag, Distirct Doda and also touches the boundaries of state Himachal Pradesh.
The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Kishtwar's mission, aligned with national guidelines, focuses on prevention, mitigation, preparedness, and response to disasters, especially given its Himalayan vulnerability to events like floods and GLOFs (Glacial Lake Outburst Floods). Its core objectives involve creating action plans, training volunteers (Aapda Mitras), enhancing coordination among agencies (Army, NDRF, SDRF), integrating mitigation into development, and building community awareness to protect lives and livelihoods.
Voluntary Commitments
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
