Established in 2008, the Disaster and Development Organisation (DADO) is a leading research and policy institute in the non-government sector. It is independent, non-profit and specializes in policy analysis, action research and project implementation for disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and sustainable development at local, national, regional and global levels. The DADO targets research and developmental project interventions that meet at least three basic principles: benefitting poor, targeting marginalised and inclusiveness; reaching to hard-to-reach and inaccessible areas; working in high disaster risk prone areas. The organization aims to reduce deaths, injuries, and suffering from disasters by building the capacity of the individual and community for better coping with disasters and achieving sustainable development.
Objectives of DADO:
- Take all the initiatives to conduct research relating to disasters and sustainable development;
- Launch awareness generation program to response to the early warning among the disaster affected community;
- Health promotion relating to disasters resilient and sustainable development;
- Involvement of the grass root disaster affected people;
- Take program to increase income opportunity of the poor community to become resilient to any sort of hazards and disasters;
- Train all the people gradually under the umbrella of resilient society so that they could be able to shape their activities themselves for resilient to disasters;
- Take initiatives for the development of sustainable livelihood practices in disaster affected areas.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
