Mission
The mission of Desarrollo Humano Internacional with the Imminent Risk Bulletin (BRI) is to empower civil society by providing clear, accessible, and life-saving information to reduce vulnerability in the face of climate-related disasters.
Specifically, the BRI aims to bridge the gap between technical meteorological data and citizen action, transforming complex forecasts into practical instructions that allow people to move from a reactive "emergency response" mindset to a proactive culture of risk reduction and self-protection.
- "Last Mile" Early Warning Systems (Sendai Target G): The organization specializes in closing the gap between complex technical data and the general public. Its core activity is translating federal meteorological reports into clear, actionable instructions that reach individuals directly before a disaster occurs.
- Impact-Based Forecasting (IBF): Unlike conventional forecasts that only report the weather, the organization’s activities focus on communicating what the weather will do to lives and property. They utilize a methodology based on World Meteorological Organization (WMO) guidelines to indicate specific risks from floods, heatwaves, or storms.
- Education and Community Resilience: Through the bulletins, a culture of prevention and "Climate Justice" is promoted. Activities include training vulnerable communities via specific, color-coded action protocols (such as "Red/Maximum Danger" alert levels), allowing the population to make autonomous self-protection decisions.
- Multi-Hazard Monitoring and Analysis: The organization conducts rigorous daily monitoring of various hydrometeorological and thermal threats in Mexican territory. This includes data analysis to anticipate extreme heatwaves, intense rains, violent winds, and frosts, ensuring information is consistent with official technical data from the Government of Mexico.
- Public Policy Advocacy and Climate Justice: As part of its mission, these actions are integrated into the framework of the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) 3.0 and COP30, advocating for a strategic shift: moving from simple emergency reaction to structural and preventive risk reduction.
In summary, Desarrollo Humano Internacional acts as a critical technical and educational communication bridge that transforms meteorological information into a survival tool for civil society.
Voluntary Commitments
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
