    Mission

CITYNET, the Regional Network of Local Authorities for the Management of Human Settlements, is a network committed to helping local authorities improve the lives of citizens and promote urban sustainability. CITYNET focuses on confronting common urban challenges, such as transportation, housing, water services, sanitation, and solid waste management. With 130 members - consisting of 84 cities and other urban stakeholders - and 25 years of history, CITYNET is the largest network of its kind in the Asia Pacific region.

    Disaster Reduction Goal

CITYNET works to develop disaster risk reduction and resilience through its network by connecting cities through information and technical exchange capacities.

    Making Cities Resilient Campaign Activities

CITYNET took part in the first-ever Thematic Debate on Disaster Risk Reduction at the United Nations General Assembly in New York last February 2011. CITYNET played a part in creating a training program at Kyoto University through their involvement in the Asian Urban Risk Reduction Task Force, building on the guide for local Hyogo Framework for Action implementation. CITYNET has participated actively in creating the Local Government Self Assessment Tool and the Handbook for Mayors. CITYNET has encouraged city-to-city cooperation through their regular activities, including for a city-to-city exchange between Makati and Kathmandu that focuses on risk-sensitive land use planning and land-pooling.

    Voluntary Commitments

The organization has no registered commitments.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
