Ce séminaire aborde un paradoxe épistémologique trop souvent ignoré au sein d’une large part de la recherche sur les catastrophes associées à des phénomènes naturels.
A team of researchers from the CNRS and the Paris Institute of Planetary Physics1 has developed an innovative imaging method that can probe the bowels of a volcano with unparalleled resolution and depth.
For the last 40 years, the financial losses caused by biological invasions have been equivalent to those caused by storms or floods. The costs of biological invasions rose faster than those of natural hazards over this period.
In an article published in Physical Review Fluids on April 4th, an interdisciplinary team of French scientists from the CNRS, the CEA, and the Claude Bernard University Lyon 1 unveiled artificial intelligence that can predict heatwaves.
France’s woodlands are the third-largest in Europe. Scientists in Corsica are developing firefighting tools to help preserve this resource.
New climate models predict that warming by 2100 will be more severe than forecast in earlier versions, especially for the most pessimistic emission scenarios.
New research shows that at the global level, 2018–2022 may be an even hotter period than expected based on current global warming. This is particularly caused by a low probability of intense cold events, and the phenomenon is even more salient with respect to sea surface temperatures, which can cause an increase in tropical storm activity.
New research has looked at gravity signals that are sensitive to the magnitude of earthquakes, and the possibility of using that information for early identification of the occurrence of major earthquakes. In the event of a major earthquake, the signals travel faster than the tremors, and could allow for earthquake identification minutes in advance.
Voluntary Commitments
The organization has no registered commitments.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
