National disaster awareness day observed in Pakistan

National Disaster Awareness Day was observed to commemorate the victims of disastrous earthquake that hit the upper parts of the country on this day in 2005. In this connection, National Disaster Management Authority organized various programs including flag march, cyclathon, awareness march and a public ceremony at Fatima Jinnah Park, Islamabad on Sunday.

Special prayers were offered and candle vigil and sky lanterns lighting were also held at the end of the programs in the evening. In Azad Kashmir, the 12th Anniversary of devastating Earthquake 2005 is also being observed today with national spirit throughout Azad Kashmir. In Muzaffarabad, the main function of the day was held at AJK University Ground.

PDMA also arranged workshops and walks in various cities to create awareness among people about natural disasters. In connection with the day, an awareness walk was organized from Naser Bagh to Town Hall in Lahore this morning. Director General Punjab Emergency Service Dr. Rizwan Naseer speaking on the occasion said Rescue 1122 has established an integrated emergency services infrastructure essential for saving lives.
