MONRE has just launched the project "Vietnam: Building the 3rd National Communication for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)".

The project will be implemented in three-year period (since the beginning of 2016 to the end of 2018), with a total capital of $ 630,000. In particular, the Global Environment Fund (GEF) grants a non-refundable amount of $ 480,000 through the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP). Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is the governing body of the project.

Accordingly, the main components of the project include: Implement national inventory of greenhouse gases by 2014 in the main economic-social sectors (agriculture, energy, industry); assess climate change impacts and adaptation measures; building plans to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions...

Finalizing the components above, the 3rd National Communication will be formed with updated climate change scenarios, meanwhile propose adaptation and mitigation measures for the building of a low-carbon economy towards green growth.

In addition, within the framework of the project, Vietnam is also supported to strengthen the capacity of science and technology, human resources; raise public awareness of climate change and mainstreaming of climate change into the plans and programs on economic- social development, environmental protection and climate change adaptation of ministries, branches and localities.
