Around 500,000 people living around Oldoinyo Lengai mountain in Arusha will be trained this month by a team of geologists from the University of Dar es Salaam. They will learn how to mitigate the effects of volcanic eruptions and earthquake that hits the area periodically.

“The training will cover people at all levels. It is expected that at the end of the exercise every one in the area will understand what volcanic eruption and earthquakes are and be able to take measures once they struck,” said Dr Crispin Kinabo, a senior Lecturer in the Assessment and Monitoring of Earthquakes and Volcanic Eruption Unit of Gregory Rift (Ol- Doinyo Lengai) North Eastern Tanzania.
