Over 90 percent of natural disasters in the world are hydro-meteorological in nature. This was disclosed by Prime Minister Dr Sibusiso Dlamini yesterday during the celebration of World Meteorology Day which was hosted by the ministry of tourism and environment affairs. Mr Dlamini also said, “Climate change impacts on strategic resources like water, food and energy and is therefore inextricably linked to sustainable development.” He noted further noted that today’s weather forecast was more accurate than in the past and thanked advances in weather and climate science and computer technology.
Dlamini stated that the Third World Conference on Disaster Reduction which was recently attended by His Majesty King Mswati III in Japan is developing a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction and he promised that Swaziland is committed in implementing that framework.
