Solomon Islands: Preparing for bad weather

The Severe Weather Warning Disaster Risk Reduction Demonstration Project began this week the in South Pacific Islands. "Ultimately, this project should assist in saving people’s lives" said Peter Fisher, International Operations Manager at New Zealand's MetService.

The project aims to raise the capacity of national meteorological offices to produce effective weather warnings by improving forecasting techniques, improving the lead time on delivery of severe weather warnings and enhancing the interaction between meteorological offices with disaster management authorities.
