Rio Policy Radar: New tool launched to support action on climate, nature and land

Upload your content

Climate Policy Radar has announced the launch of Rio Policy Radar, a new shared platform bringing together country submissions to the three Rio Conventions: the UNFCCC, CBD and UNCCD.

The Rio Policy Radar platform allows users to easily explore how countries are addressing the three interlinked issues of climate, nature and land degradation, and their co-benefits, opportunities or trade-offs. This full text-searchable database is free and open, using AI-powered tools to read and pull out mentions of key topics (such as those related to targets, impacted groups and economic sectors) to help make sense of long, complex documents. Rio Policy Radar can help answer questions such as:

  • How strategies to address nature loss also contribute to climate adaptation
  • Which countries are using nature-based solutions in their drought plans or land restoration strategies
  • Where national commitments align - or diverge - across climate, nature, and land goals

Users can explore submissions to the Rio Conventions from around the world, searching across document types including National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs), National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), Land Degradation Neutrality Targets, and beyond.

Going forward, Climate Policy Radar will continue building and improving this tool to include additional documents and topics, working with expert organisations across the topics of climate, nature and land degradation to inform this effort.
