PLOS Currents: Disasters - Website launched
Press release:
Survey of the damage caused by Superstorm Sandy has begun. In its aftermath residents of the affected areas are facing a rising death-toll and widespread damage to property and infrastructure.
In the wake of events such as these it is vital to ensure the responders and decision-makers have accurate, evidence-based information available as rapidly as possible. PLOS Currents: Disasters was launched to address this need.
Content is reviewed by leading experts in the field in a streamlined review process. Field-reports and Brief Incident Reports from on-going disasters undergo an expedited review with a goal of acceptance in a matter of days. Accepted manuscripts can be published within a few hours where the information is made freely available for anyone to read, distribute and build-upon.
Following publication there is the opportunity to re-visit published articles with further updates. These revisions will undergo a second review and will be published as a new edition.
We hope this will provide a valuable resource to those working to rebuild and recover following such a tragic event. For more information on submitting an article please see currents.plos.org/disasters or email us at disasters@plos.org.
PLOS Currents Disasters is an innovative open-access publication for the rapid communication of new research results and operational analyses derived from the study or management of all types of disasters
