Japan, Australia pledge to boost disaster cooperation

The Japanese Prime Minister, Naoto Kan and his Australian counterpart, Julia Gillard have both pledged to reinforce bilateral efforts in dealing with natural hazards, in the wake of the recent earthquake, reports Xinhua.

In a joint statement the two leaders said that it was "timely to further develop bilateral cooperation and to strengthen coordination in the civil and military areas on disaster preparedness and response."
