This game could save your life - disaster preparedness in a video game

A group of Seattle-based developers are applying the principles of video games to raise awareness and educate on disaster preparedness. 'GameSave', an open source, disaster-themed educational game which will be played over a course of five weeks by multiple teams of game developers reports the Atlantic.

"We were intrigued by the idea of games being used for good, and practical, sustainable applications, say Annie Dennisdóttir Wright, a lead editor at Gameranx a gaming website, and Willow Brugh, who works at Geeks Without Bounds who are sponsoring the game. "..there's an untapped potential there, a learning mechanism that is more effective than a traditional classroom setting."
