After a tropical storm hit the southern Philippines, triggering deadly flash floods, Senators hoped the damages wrought by typhoon Sendong will spur the government to ramp up preparations against future calamities, reports Sun Star. "The costs are too high for us not to use what we have learned from past experiences in better preparing ourselves for future typhoons," said Senator Edgardo Angara. "Clearly, we still need to improve our disaster management and risk reduction systems," he continued, while Senator Loren Legarda called on government to craft and implement National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan as required by law.
