'Don't consign us to history', plead island states at Cancún

43 Caribbean, African and Pacific island states said today, at the UN climate talks in Mexico, that they face 'the end of history' unless action is taken to stop sea-levels rising, reports John Vidal for The Guardian. According to a new study by researchers at the Oxford University Centre for the Environment, the Caribbean faces huge economic losses caused by sea-level rise over the coming decades, losing critical infrastructure such as hospitals, airports, power plants, roads, bridges, farmland and multi-million dollar tourism resorts.
