Our initiative, Risk know-how, helps communities navigate risk information within their own contexts.
We have combined the insights from over 100 interviews with people in communities around the world that communicate about many different types of risks into a short workbook aimed at risk information providers to support them in communicating with a given audience and consider their needs and also highlights some best practices to keep in mind when communicating risk.
We have been hearing how over-simplification does not help them, because the situations they face are indeed complex and multifaceted. The information they receive often does not focus on the impacts on their communities or take their reality into account. They are not adequately supported in weighing up risks and benefits, assessing those trade-offs and often they are just not consulted.
We plan to publish the final version of the workbook in October.
If you are a risk communicator and would like to test our trial version, we would love to hear how you used it, what was especially helpful, and anything you felt was missing.
We are using these insights to refine the workbook but also to capture examples of who might find it helpful. For any more information or to provide feedback, contact us at [email protected].
Deadline for feedback is September 17, 2025.
