The global launch of the Report will took place in Geneva on 10 May 2011 under the leadership of the United Nations Secretary-General and in the context of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, convened by UNISDR. UNISDR offered the New York audience a special briefing of this landmark publication.

The 2011 Global Assessment Report provides an invaluable resource on recent trends in global risk and progress in disaster risk reduction today. Analysis of updated national and global data and the application of innovative probabilistic risk assessments present compelling evidence of the real cost of disaster to affected countries. The Report complements this with concrete recommendations on how to adopt appropriate risk financing strategies and to build effective risk governance capacities.
