Context

This webinar aims to examine the interconnections between climate change, disaster risk management (DRM), and the resilience of water resources in Burkina Faso, with a particular focus on the Guiriko region. It highlights how increasing climate extremes exacerbate risks to water systems and threaten socio-economic development outcomes. The discussion will emphasize how vulnerabilities in water resource management can amplify disaster risks when resilience strategies are insufficiently adapted to local climatic, institutional, and socio-ecological contexts. Through interactive exchanges, the speaker and participants will identify critical gaps in current resilience and DRM frameworks and explore scientifically grounded pathways for strengthening adaptive water governance. The webinar will foreground integrated, equitable, and results-oriented approaches to enhancing water resource resilience across short-, medium-, and long-term horizons.
