Risk 2009 will be held in the framework of ENVIROINFO 2009 (23rd International Conference on Informatics for Environmental Protection) http://www.enviroinfo2009.org organized by WG "Risk Management" of the Technical Committee 'Environmental Informatics' GI TC 4.6, GI (German Computer Society) in Cooperation with CODATA-Germany http://www.codata-germany.org and in cooperation with CODATA WG on Documentation, Archiving and Open Access to Disaster Information http://www.codata.org/taskgroups/Wgdisaster

Scope

This international workshop on Risk Management related to ICT for the environment will enable sharing of best practice as well as giving space for discussing methodological problems in risk modeling from the information system point of view (data, structure, processes, metainformation, interoperability, communication, visualization etc.).

The following areas will be of central interest

- technical, chemical risks at regional and transboundary
- risk and multi-risk cartographic issues
- risk modeling issues for infrastructure (e.g. factories, railways, highways, pipelines, maritime traffic etc.)
- disaster management and emergency preparedness, prevention, alert, response and mitigation
- data processing related to risk management issues with special regard to information system structural aspects and Risk Model Methodology and implementation
- health and biological risks issues for humans and the environment
- aircraft crash risks on infrastructure
- user-group specific risk management issues and other Risk-related issues.

There is growing concern on local, regional, national and international level to increase preparedness and substantially support decision making at various levels of actions to be taken in environmental risk situations. These fields are both related to the follow-up of legislation and management for authorities on all spatial levels as well as for factories owners of SME's and of transnational companies.
