Hosted by Germany, the workshop is jointly organised by the European Commission and the German Federal Ministry of the Interior with support of the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance.

The Council has invited the Commission to develop together with the Member States EU guidelines on hazard and risk assessment, analysis and mapping before the end of 2010. The Seminar will have as its main objective to compare methods implemented in Member States, analyse the main issues to be addressed to encourage or further the development of assessments, analyses and maps developed by the Member States, and to identify aspects that should be covered in EU guidelines on hazard and risk assessment, analysis and mapping.

Next to expert presentations on different approaches on risk assessment and mapping, a workshop part on the second day will allow to exchange expert opinion and best practises.
