Public seminar on urban planning and climate change - CATMED project
The City of Rome is organizing the fourth CATMED seminar. As it happened in Athens, Turin and Aix, the partners of the project will join together with experts and local actors who will share their experiences on:
Urban planning and climate change in the Mediterranean metropolises.
Cities are the main stakeholders of the CATMED project. If they concentrate an important part of greenhouse gas emissions, they also have a pivotal role to face both mitigation and adaptation challenges in the perspective of the fight against climate change. Whereas the CATMED project is entering in a more operational phase, it seems pertinent to engage a discussion about how the urban planning can take into account the impacts of climate change. In this context, urban planning constitutes a key tool that gives cities a complement of legitimacy and means to act in this domain.
In fact, cities have to demonstrate they are able to play a leading role and to take benefit of their tools, resources and influence to fight against climate change. In that sense, it is important to answer some questions concerning their ability to keep positioning themselves as key stakeholders in this fight.
What does a post-carbon city mean? What are its concrete implications at an urban level? What are the consequences on urban planning priorities? What are the consequences on urban planning modalities? What are the interesting on-going experiences in this domain? All these questions will be discussed during the fourth CATMED seminar.
