The course provides:

- an awareness of the scale and impact of inadequate water supply, sanitation and hygiene in developing countries
- an understanding of the transmission of diseases prevalent in developing countries
- recognition of the importance of social, economic and institutional dimensions of water supply, sanitation and hygiene in developing countries.

By the end of the course, participants will:

- be able to apply water resources and environmental engineering technologies appropriate for urban and rural situations in developing countries
- be able to use initiative in acquiring and using information
- be able to work in a team and produce innovative solutions to problems
- be able to confidently and critically discuss relevant issues.
