City of Cape Town: International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction: 13 October 2023

The Disaster Risk Management Centre of the City of Cape Town, is celebrating the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDR), which will be commemorated on 13 October 2023. 

This year the Theme of the day is: “Fighting Inequality For A Resilient Future.  IDDRR will look at the reciprocal relationship between disasters and inequality.  

The event promises to be an inspiring and informative gathering, bringing together like-minded individuals dedicated to advancing disaster risk management.

The objectives of this seminar will highlight the following:

• Statistical overview of the state of poverty in the City of Cape Town
• Food Security – Food Systems Working Group
• An epidemiological perspective – poverty and urban health
• Climate Change – impacts and severity of extreme weather events
• Neighbourhood Resilience Assessment
• Importance of disaster planning and resilience building
• Collaborative humanitarian efforts for disaster relief
