IAEA safety standards for protecting people and the environment, general safety guide no. GSG-2:

This publication covers nuclear safety, radiation safety, transport safety and waste safety. It provides a comprehensive set of high quality standards under regular review to be used as a prerequisite for the purpose of the protection of people in all States and of the environment - now and in the future - including in exceptional circumstances such as cases of extreme weather conditions and 'natural' disasters.

It is intended to be used in IAEA's own operations, and by governments, regulatory bodies and operators everywhere to ensure that nuclear material and radiation sources are used beneficially, safely and ethically, in consultation with the competent organs of the United Nations and with the specialized agencies concerned.
