The Role

We are looking for someone to expand our expertise in water resources management, with a focus on the countries of the Mekong. This includes project management, technical delivery and business development. Projects may include topics such as river basin planning, hydrological modelling/analysis, environmental flows, water accounting and allocation and water governance.

To be successful in the role you will need to be flexible, adaptative, driven and have aspirations to work with a high performing team.

Specific tasks include:

  • Serving in technical roles on Alluvium’s international projects with a focus on water resources management in the countries of the lower Mekong. You will also be working on assessing the impact of climate change on water resources and identifying relevant adaptation measures (structural and non-structural).
  • Providing science-based input into a variety of projects spanning governance, policy, strategy, planning, capacity building, quantitative and qualitative analysis, design and data generation.
  • Acting as Project Manager for Alluvium’s international projects with a focus on water resources management in the countries of the lower Mekong.
  • Participation in business development activities with a focus on water resources management in the lower Mekong countries.
  • Developing and/or maintaining relationships with key potential and existing clients and partners.
  • Supporting the Alluvium Group’s Research, Knowledge and Insights work focussed on the countries of the lower Mekong.

The position will report to the Delivery Lead – International.

About you

You will have experience and the desire to work on water resources management challenges in the countries of the lower Mekong (Cambodia, Thailand, Lao PR and Viet Nam). As part of this you will have knowledge of, and appreciation for, the cultural similarities and differences between the places where we work.

You will be driven to help address the complex issues facing environments and communities.

You have a developing network within governments, private sector, bilateral and multilateral funding agencies in the countries of the lower Mekong.

Your skills and experience

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience including work in multiple countries of Mekong. This could include topics such as (but not limited to) hydrology, climate change adaptation, river basin planning and governance or environmental engineering.
  • Bachelor degree (minimum), Masters or higher degree (preferred) in topics related to water, climate or the environment.
  • Project management skills, particularly for multilateral banks (e.g. Asian Development Bank, World Bank), international non-governmental organizations (e.g. UNDP, IUCN, WWF) or in-region government funded projects.
  • This role if open to those with skills in strategy, planning or technical delivery.
    • For those with a strategy and planning focus, knowledge of relevant international and national policies, plans, procedures, governance structures and stakeholders is required.
    • For those with a technical focus, experience with relevant international standards and one or more software packages is required (e.g. HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWAT, MIKE SHE, ArcGIS/QGIS, eWater Source or other).
  • Excellent presentation skills and a clear communicator.

Location

Preferably based in Thailand, Cambodia, Lao PDR or Vietnam but open to other locations for exceptional candidates.

Time requirement

We anticipate this is a full-time role however we are open to other approaches.

Remuneration

Remuneration is commensurate with skills and experience.
