This position is located in the Global Climate and Weather Modeling Branch of the Environmental Modeling Center (EMC), National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) of the National Weather Service (NWS), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The incumbent is a researcher or member of a research team performing research on problems of metrological phenomena.

Payment of relocation expenses is not authorized.
A one-year probationary period may be required.

Registered for Selective Service, if applicable (www.sss.gov).

Duties
:

The successful candidate will work as a member of the data assimilation team enhancing the current NCEP operational data assimilation systems. Responsibilities will include the development, enhancement, maintenance and implementation of a hybrid variational/ensemble data assimilation system and working with the rest of the team to enhance the overall capabilities of the NCEP data assimilation system. The position will require working with external partners in the development process.
