Disaster management officer (volunteer)

The position will work alongside the Disaster Management (DM) Officer under the supervision of the Executive Director or Secretary General in the National Society where they are working. They will coordinate with the IFRC Regional DM Coordinator and will support the development and implementation of DM activities in states across the Pacific, including Micronesia. There will be in-country reporting to the Executive Director/Secretary General of the Red Cross Society. The role focuses on mentoring and the capacity development with the DM Officers in each country. The role requires posting to remote areas and for long periods of time. The volunteer may be required to work with limited supervision as part of the overall IFRC support to National Societies.
Successful applicants will demonstrate:
- Proven experience in organizational development and enhancing institutional capacity.
- Demonstrated understanding of the DM cycle (prevention, preparedness, response, recovery)
- Experience working with volunteers
- Demonstrated experience in program planning and implementation
- Experience working in the Pacific and/or with Red Cross an advantage
