This course introduces the landmark Resilience Science Must-Knows report, developed through a partnership between Stockholm Resilience Centre, the Global Resilience Partnership and Future Earth. You'll explore why resilience matters for infrastructure professionals, and how local system failures can cascade into global disruption. Through real-world case studies and direct insight from the authors of the Resilience Science Must-Knows themselves, you'll learn how the different capacities of resilience can be applied to mitigate risk in a changing world.

Once you have learned the ideas and skills in this course, you will be able to:
- Explain why modern infrastructure requires resilience thinking to manage changing environmental and social uncertainties
- Analyze how sudden shocks or slow-creeping changes can cascade through interconnected infrastructure, social, and ecological systems using systems thinking.
- Evaluate cases of infrastructure resilience through the understanding of resilience as the capacities to cope, adapt, and transform under conditions of change and uncertainty.
- Distinguish between general and specific resilience and identify when resilience becomes undesirable.
- Explain how resilience strategies can be effective in preventing cascading impacts of shocks across interconnected infrastructure systems.
