From data to decisions: Partnerships driving climate resilience in the Caribbean
This case study examines how the EU-funded Intra-ACP Disaster Risk Reduction Programme is helping to close critical data gaps in the Caribbean by bringing together the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), the University of the West Indies (UWI) and the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH). The initiative supports resilient investments through technical assistance and finance mobilization, including climate and health policy work, expansion of high-resolution climate data, upgrades to marine buoy networks, updated State of the Caribbean Climate (SOCC) reporting, interactive climate information platforms, and flood modelling under the Strengthening Water Resources Management and Climate Resilience project.
This case study finds that partnerships connecting research, climate services and development finance are translating climate data into action to inform preparedness, policy and investment decisions. The publication highlights enhanced climate and health risk information, strengthened climate risk information for risk-informed policies and investments, improved preparedness and response through real-time information sharing ahead of Hurricane Melissa, and support for recovery planning and long-term resilience. The authors emphasize that updated, context-specific climate risk information strengthens evidence-based decision-making, disaster risk reduction governance, and resilience-building across the Caribbean.
