Global report on food crises - 2025
The Global Report on Food Crises 2025 (GRFC) presents a comprehensive, consensus-based analysis of acute food insecurity, malnutrition, and displacement across 65 countries. It identifies the populations most at risk, explores key drivers like conflict, climate shocks, and economic crises, and aims to guide humanitarian and development responses. The report is developed through collaboration among international agencies and offers both current data and projections to inform timely interventions.
In 2024, over 295 million people faced acute food insecurity, with conflict, drought, and floods being major drivers. Countries like Sudan and Gaza saw famine or near-famine conditions. Malnutrition surged, especially among displaced populations. Climate extremes, including El Niño-driven droughts and flooding, disrupted food systems. At the same time, global humanitarian funding dropped sharply, threatening support for millions. Without urgent action, these overlapping crises are expected to worsen in 2025.
