PhD in Understanding and Managing Extremes: Curriculum in Weather, Geological, Chemical and Environmental Risk

The first edition [2018/2019] of the Weather, Geological, Chemical and Environmental Risk curriculum of the PhD Programme in Understanding and Managing Extremes (UME) is being offered by the UME Centre of the IUSS Pavia. The Programme covers the domain of risks linked to hydro-meteorological, geological, chemical and environmental extremes.
The study areas of this curriculum aspects of hydrology, atmospheric physics, earth physics, fluid mechanics, climatology, environmental monitoring, climate change, issues related to the "soil-atmosphere" and "ocean-atmosphere" macro-areas, production of risk scenarios, identification of mitigation actions, evaluation and management of natural, chemical and environmental risks with reference to acute events and to protracted exposures.

Applications are currently open for the 2018/2019 year. The deadline is 9 March 2018 at 13:00 CET.
Interested applicants are asked to enter their email address on the application start page (IUSS on-line application). A message will then be sent to the provided address, supplying you with a verification link, clicking on which you will reach again the application start page. At this stage you will receive a second message providing you with a password. At the end of this security procedure, you have username (i.e. your email address) and password to actually access the application form and start your application.
In order to complete the application form you must upload the following documents:
- Curriculum vitae et studiorum
- Copy of the diploma certificate (in Italian or English)
- Transcript of the attended courses and professional qualifications (in Italian or English)
- Copy of the passport or the identity card
- English language test certificate (or waiver referring to previous courses, work experience in English speaking countries, etc...)
