Uganda is lacking a comprehensive legal disaster risk management framework, which hinders the country's efforts towards achieving the Sendai goals.
The 5.7 magnitude earthquake in September destroyed more than 500 houses in Rakai District and another 3,186 houses developed cracks. While donor-driven models can and do build safe houses, they miss the opportunity to build local capacity, and in many cases the houses built after the funding and technical assistance cease are not built to those same safe standards.

The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
