The International Center for Urban Safety Engineering (ICUS) was established at Institute of Industrial Science (IIS) in response to a need of a center for studying urban safety engineering including the maintenance and management of infrastructures from an international point of view. Based on research results accumulated until now at IIS, comprehensive research activities are being implemented towards the realization of safer cities in the 21st century. The Center consists of three major divisions namely; Sustainable Engineering division, Urban Safety and Disaster Mitigation division, and Infrastructure Information Dynamics division.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
