Assessment of Kenya's preparedness to disasters caused by natural hazards

Source(s):  Development Initiatives (DI)

This report details the findings of our study on Kenya's preparedness for floods, drought and disease outbreaks – human and animal. It looks at preparedness at the national and subnational level focusing on Mandera and Migori counties. The study assesses preparedness under different frameworks:

  • governance and legal;
  • preparedness capacity;
  • linkages to international processes of disaster preparedness;
  • and financial allocations to preparedness.

The report also presents case studies on disaster preparedness at the county level. Mandera County is classified as arid and semi-arid and is prone to droughts. Migori is prone to floods.
