Disasters and the built environment
Research roadmap
This publication presents a research roadmap focusing on how research can contribute to the planning for, and the design, construction and management of a built environment that has a maximum resilience against disasters. The research roadmap has been largely drawn from a series of webinars. The webinars shared knowledge and expertise between International Council for Research and Innovation in Building (CIB) members, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), and cities that are involved in the UNISDR’s ‘Making Cities Resilient’ Campaign.
Key recommendations proposed by the report are the following (p. 29):
- Improve transfer of existing knowledge.
- Distribute research funding in a more interdisciplinary manner.
- Improve education of built environment professionals about their roles in disaster risk reduction.
