Teaching major hazards: Major hazard prevention in school curricula
This website focuses on the concept of education for the prevention of natural and technological major hazards towards sustainable development. It provides a snapshot of the various curricula of secondary school children and how the prevention of major hazards is progressively introduced. It concludes that the pedagogical approach of DRR through case studies is doubtless the best approach to treat those subjects. The strategy could be summed up as follows: hazard identification at the regional scale, observation of the surrounding environments, risk assessment of the existing structures, school and home safety planing, safety measures to be applied in the event of emergencies, simulation drills, certification of skills in terms of expected behaviours (to be developed). Part of the pedagogical tools refers to a shaking table elaborated by a student. This website provides a list of interesting websites. (UNESCO)
