St. Elizabeth disaster committee parish disaster plan
St. Elizabeth Parish encompasses a multi hazards environment that is vulnerable to flooding, hurricanes, storm surges, drought, earthquakes and bush fires. There are concerns that climate change will increase the frequency of more extreme events, exposing communities in the Parish to even more risk. Mitigating the impacts of natural disasters and improving the resilience of communities to recover from hazard events is an integral part of the progress and wellbeing of St Elizabeth Parish.
This Parish Disaster Plan aims to promote and reinforce disaster management at the parish level in accordance with the policies of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) and the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ). This plan also outlines the emergency response framework and responsibilities for the disaster management stakeholders in St Elizabeth Parish. It defines the agencies and groups that have a role in disaster management before, during and after an event.
