No upward trend in normalised windstorm losses in Europe: 1970–2008

Natural hazards and earth system sciences, 10, 97–104, 2010:
This peer-reviewed paper looks at whether weather-related disaster losses are really increasing as a result of climate change, by attempting to put windstorm Kyrill (18 January 2007) into an historical context by examining large historical windstorm event losses in Europe for the period 1970–2008 across 29 European countries.
It concludes that the answer is no, as storm losses in Europe over 1970-2008 show no trend once they are normalising against population growth and wealth increases.
