The purpose of this drought plan is to compile drought related information and propose coordinated actions by relevant sectors to mitigate the impact of drought in the country. The plan is intended to serve as a working guide for those agencies that have the capabilities and resources to develop effective response and mitigation programs within their areas of jurisdiction. The success of this plan is heavily dependent upon coordination and commitment from all levels of government, private sector, NGOs and the community.
Sri Lanka's National Drought Plan (NDP) includes a description of the country, climate, agroecological regions, historical occurrences of drought, risk assessments, identification of impacts related to specific geographical locations.
