Gender dimensions of vulnerability to climate change in China
Commissioned by UN Women China, this report presents the findings of a study on how gender equality, climate change and disaster risk intersect in China. The research investigates gender gaps in China’s policy framework, attitudes and gender composition of government institutions, the role of NGOs, and men and women’s differential vulnerabilities to the adverse impacts of climate change.
The report’s data was collected through a policy review, 84 interviews and a survey of over 3400 people in eight counties of Jiangsu, Qinghai and Shaanxi provinces. The research will support evidence-based discussion on how China can integrate gender into climate change action and disaster risk reduction over the coming years. The research report also outlines 15 recommendations for China's government departments, NGOs, and UN Women.
