Disaster risk reduction (DRR) badge manual
The Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Badge Manual for the Pakistan Girls Guide Association (PGGA), developed jointly by the National Disaster Management Authority, Pakistan Girls Guide Association and UNICEF, is a strategic capacity-building resource designed to strengthen disaster resilience in Pakistan by empowering young girls as informed, skilled, and community-oriented change agents. Aligned with national disaster risk management and anticipatory action frameworks, the manual advances a shift from reactive response to prevention, preparedness, and risk-informed decision-making at the grassroots level.
Through participatory, practical, and values-based learning, the manual equips Girl Guides to identify local hazards, understand vulnerabilities, adopt climate-smart and environmentally responsible practices, and apply safe and timely actions during emergencies. By fostering leadership, teamwork, and civic responsibility, the manual enhances community awareness, strengthens local preparedness, and expands a trained youth volunteer base capable of supporting early action, emergency response, and recovery efforts. Collectively, these outcomes contribute to inclusive disaster risk reduction, sustained community resilience, and long-term risk-informed development across Pakistan.
