Educational facilities and risk management: natural disasters
This publication raises the question of protecting schools physically, for the role that they play in the community, that goes beyond just providing a place for teachers and students for a few hours each day. As community centres for social and cultural activities and meetings it is being recognized that special attention is needed to build new schools and retrofitting older ones so as to provide maximum protection for users in case of natural disasters.
It is also underscores the need to introduce natural disaster response training and education as a fundamental mean of reducing vulnerability.
