World disasters report 2026
This report brings together insights from nearly 100 contributors and 60 organizations, including over 30 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to examine how harmful information – misinformation, disinformation, malinformation, hate speech and other damaging narratives – impacts responses to disasters, public health emergencies, migration and conflict. The report identifies that such information poses a pressing and pervasive challenge across all sectors of society, and a critical issue for organizations operating in humanitarian crises.
As a solution, the report provides a roadmap to resilience, consisting of eight core pillars:
- Trust as a strategic asset
- ‘Right-touch’ compliance in a digital age
- Informational and digital literacy and capacities
- Embed risk management in core systems
- Anticipation and integrated response strategies
- Information diplomacy and norm setting
- Policy and governance for information resilience
- Research, evidence and partnerships
