USA: An extreme heat toolkit for Connecticut municipalities
This publication presents the municipal heat planning study in Connecticut and introduces a practical toolkit developed in response to the gaps identified through the research. It outlines how extreme heat response currently operates across different levels of governance in the state and highlights areas where municipalities face challenges in planning and preparedness, as revealed through interviews with local stakeholders. Based on these insights, the publication sets out the purpose and structure of the toolkit, which aims to support municipal leaders by providing adaptable planning and communication resources, Connecticut-specific evidence on the health impacts of extreme heat, particularly for vulnerable populations, and clear safety guidance for residents to reduce heat-related risks.
