Participatory climate risk assessment manual: Cameroon and Central Africa Republic
This manual aims to strengthen the capacity of facilitators, local authorities and community stakeholders to conduct participatory climate risk assessments and develop locally led climate adaptation actions. It provides practical guidance, tools and training materials to improve understanding of climate change, integrate human rights and inclusion into climate action, assess climate risks and vulnerabilities, and support communities in identifying and prioritizing resilience-building measures that inform local development and adaptation planning.
The publication introduces core climate change concepts, adaptation and mitigation approaches, and the links between climate impacts, disaster risk and human rights. It emphasizes inclusive, people-centred processes that engage women, youth, persons with disabilities and other marginalized groups in decision-making. Through practical facilitation guidance, participatory assessment tools and examples, the manual supports the integration of community perspectives into local development planning and climate action. By strengthening local capacity to assess risks and develop evidence-based adaptation priorities, the manual aims to improve resilience, promote inclusive governance and support sustainable development in climate-vulnerable communities.
