Household Economy Analysis (HEA): a baseline for cyclone contingency planning in the coastal region of Bangladesh
The Household Economy Analysis 2024 report examines livelihoods, income dynamics, and coping mechanisms in Bangladesh’s coastal communities that are regularly exposed to climate shocks like floods, storm surges, and cyclones. It provides a comprehensive economic baseline to inform cyclone contingency planning and more equitable Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) programming in these vulnerable regions Start Network.
By segmenting communities into different wealth groups, the HEA supports tailored anticipatory action measures—ensuring aid is better targeted and more effective. The findings are grounded in a participatory, data-driven methodology involving a broad range of stakeholders (including Start Network member organisations and the Department of Disaster Management, DDM) Start Network. Its aim is to strengthen early warning systems, enhance local relevance in crisis response, and ultimately bolster resilience and protect lives in the face of escalating climate risks.
