Disaster management through indigenous wisdom: voice from the people of Erendabari Char

The article tries to identify and reveal indigenous myths and beliefs that exist in the Island Chars communities in Bangladesh, a remote, geographically isolated territory, and to establish a linkage with scientific knowledge. It highlights indigenous knowledge utilized and transmitted to younger generation via the male line as an indication of disaster event and coping mechanisms for disaster risk reduction. Further, the article analyses indigenous knowledge and the reasons for practising indigenous knowledge and finally it recommends adaptation mechanisms and best practices for disaster risk reduction.
