Asuncion declaration: Guidelines towards a regional action plan on the implementation of the Sendai Framework in the Americas
The Asuncion Declaration: "Guidelines towards a Regional Action Plan on the Implementation of the Sendai Framework in the Americas" was adopted on the 11th June 2016, at the Ministerial and High Level Authorities Meeting on the Implementation of the Sendai Framework in the Americas held between the 8th and 9th June 2916 in Asuncion, Paraguay.
The declaration among others, recognizes the necessity of governments with other stakeholders to widely disseminate strategies aligned with the Sendai Framework, urges intergovernmental bodies to support countries in the development of a Regional Action Plan for the Americas, and countries to integrate disaster risk reduction considerations into national and sub-national policies.
Furthermore, the document presents actions to be undertaken at regional and national level for all priorities of the Sendai Framework:
- Priority 1: Understanding disaster risk;
- Priority 2: Strengthening disaster risk governance to manage disaster risk;
- Priority 3: Investing in disaster risk reduction for resilience;
- Priority 4: Enhancing disaster preparedness for an effective response and "Build Back Better" in recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction.
