Analysis of legislation related to disaster risk reduction in South Africa

This case study examines experience to date with South Africa’s 2002 Disaster Management Act, which has often been cited as exemplary for its integration of a disaster risk reduction approach. It finds that, while the Act has clearly had an important impact, there are a number of gaps in the existing text and in its implementation.
